What is heading for the US?
Experts have been tracking the development of an El Niño in the Pacific Ocean, and they say it is heading toward America. It was first flagged as a possible issue over the summer, but its most serious effects are expected to arrive in the winter months.
Snowstorms and other severe weather are predicted along the East Coast. Southern Maine, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and California are all expected to see above-average rain, snow, hail and sleet. High-altitude areas in the west could see feet of snow.
