That afternoon, I found myself replaying the encounter over and over. It was a simple mistake, one that anyone could have made, but in my supervisor’s eyes, it was the end of the world.
I sat at my desk, staring at the screen but seeing nothing, my mind lost in a haze of anxiety and self-doubt.
“You okay?” a voice broke through my thoughts. It was Maria, the only person in the office who ever seemed to notice when someone was struggling.
“Yeah, just… you know how it is,” I replied, forcing a smile.
“Don’t let them get to you,” she said softly. “It’s not worth it.”
I nodded, grateful for her kindness but knowing that it wouldn’t change anything.
Maria lingered for a moment before returning to her own desk, leaving me with my thoughts.
