Crock Pot Cube Steak

Ingredients:

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 packet of onion soup mix (1 oz)
  • 1 can of cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 can of cream of chicken soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 ½ cups of beef broth or water


  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons of water (for gravy thickening)
  • Mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles (optional for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cube Steaks:
    • Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
    • If you want, lightly brown them in a skillet with oil over medium-high heat for 1-2 minutes per side. This adds extra flavor but is optional.
  2. Layer in the Crock Pot:
    • Arrange the sliced onions at the bottom of the Crock Pot.
    • Place the cube steaks on top of the onions.


  1. Make the Sauce:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and beef broth or water until smooth.
  2. Cooking:
    • Pour the sauce over the steaks, ensuring they’re well covered.
    • Cook on Low for 6-8 hours or on High for 4-5 hours, until the cube steaks are tender.
  3. Thicken the Gravy (optional):
    • To make the gravy thicker, 30 minutes before the end of cooking, mix the cornstarch and water to form a slurry. Stir it into the Crock Pot, cover, and cook for another 20-30 minutes.
