  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cups potatoes, sliced (about 4 medium potatoes)
  • One can of cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder, smoked paprika, or fresh parsley for garnish

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook ground beef and onions in a skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and onions are soft. Drain any excess grease.
  • Put the milk and cream of mushroom soup in a bowl. Stir in salt, pepper, and any additional spices you like (garlic powder or paprika work well).
  • Layer the casserole: Spread half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a greased baking dish. Top with half of the ground beef mixture and half of the cheese. Repeat layers.
